Boycott Boycott Boycott

The Daily Mail tells us that a bid by Home Secretary Medusa May to dub ancient cricket wallah Geoffrey Boycott “Sir Geoff” has been boycotted by the Cabinet Office due to a brush with the (French) law he had in 1996.
He was convicted of “pinning down his then lover, Margaret Moore, and punching her in the face” and copped a three-month suspended jail sentence and a £5300 fine.
He denies the charge to this day, and I have no insight into the truth or otherwise of the claim upon which he was convicted.
What I do know is this: He should not be made a knight.
Not because of his conviction, sound or otherwise as it might be.
Because NO-ONE should be knighted. Amongst the ‘worthy’ who have received honours over the years, the vast majority have been handed out (in recent times certainly) for political favours granted, allegiances and confidences kept and general do-goodery of the kind that involves interfering with the lives of people who are minding their own business.
How many have received the favour of the crown (actually the favour of the sitting government) on account of covering up some establishment corruption? Many I’m sure.
The most egregious example of all patronage, though, is where people are appointed to the House of Lords, to rule over us without ever having to face election in the first place, or indeed ever again. The list of ghastly charlatans and appalling champagne-socialist celebs is too long to list here, but if you’re curious, you can see the lists of past awards here.
The patronage of the crown is a corrupt concept that belongs in the dustbin of ancient history.
It should be scrapped and all those titles should be withdrawn from whoever has one.
This must NEVER be allowed to happen again.
