Petards and hoistage

The real irony, of course, is that Gordon is the author of his own downfall, having been at the centre of a government that has gratuitously nurtured the need, and right, to take offence at anything and everything said.

To that he added uncontrolled immigration, gagging objectors by calling them bigots and racists.

His apology sounds false because it’s not a revision of his opinion or attitude – nor an admission of faulty judgement – merely remorse at being overheard.

And that’s probably fair enough.

Why is the state of being offended so damned powerful?

Steve Hughes speaks abundant sense.
