Just days after the third runway for Heathrow airport got its controversial go-ahead – which will involve the flattening of a corner of London that includes historic and sacred grounds – someone called Lord Turner has released a report from his ‘climate change committee’, which recommends rationing people’s entitlement to fly.
‘We will have to constrain demand in an absolute sense, with people not allowed to make as many journeys as they could in an unconstrained manner.’
but don’t think this is just the Labour monkeys who are in this frame of mind….
Tim Yeo, the Tory chairman of the Commons environment audit committee, came under fire two years ago when he said flights within the UK could not be justified and should be taxed almost out of existence.
We are truly buggered whichever of the main parties are elected. We need a whole new movement. I wish Libertarianism was it. I just don’t think it can be, until there has been a major political, economic and social catastrophe, the like of which will wake up the millions of drones in the UK. And it’s won’t be pretty. Expect it when the lights start going out.
