Bizarre fetishes…

I don’t know why.

I don’t like Martha Wainwright’s songs or music. This is an understatement.

I don’t like Edith Piaf’s voice. This is an understatement.

But this is my favourite album of the moment:

It just works.

The title comes from track 6 on the download (CD, whatever), Les Grognards. In this context, it seems grognard means ‘old guard’. Anyway, it turns out they’re the grenadiers, who lack grenades, guns and shoes. Anyway, they’re fucking everyone’s day up by marching to Paris.

Typical French.

A live intro from Jools:

AJ

Next week: Gwar re-interpret Kraftwerk.

  1. I’ve always found ‘The Far side’ a little hit and miss, but one of Gary Larsen’s hits was a couple of souls, one going up, the other going down:

Welcome to heaven, here’s your harp
    +
Welcome to Hell, here’s your accordian

Maybe a reference to the march to Paris and the 100 day war that led to the Brits loosing at Waterloo. (Without the Prussians the Brits would have been DEEP in the shit,) The “Old guard” were the ones that the Royal navy allowed to escape, with Napoleon, from Elba.

    • I’m most grateful for the illumination. I now realise I’m gonna have to brush up on some of the history, if I’m considering moving to France… lol
